Riddle Box · Last updated 4 September 2026

Short version: Riddle Box does not collect personal information from children or anyone else. There are no accounts, no sign-up, no ads and no analytics profiles. Everything stays on the device.

1. Made for children

The App is directed to children and is built to comply with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), the Apple App Store Kids Category rules and Google Play’s Families policy. We do not knowingly collect, use or disclose personal information from children.

2. What we do not collect

3. What stays on the device

Profiles, points, streaks, which riddles have been asked and the app settings are stored locally on your device, in the App’s own storage. They are never uploaded to us and we cannot see them. Deleting the App deletes this data. Clearing the statistics or deleting a profile inside the App is protected by a parent gate.

4. The microphone

A riddle can be answered by typing, by tapping one of the offered answers, or by speaking. The speak option is the only thing that uses the microphone, and it is never required. Every screen works fully without it.

Tapping the microphone button asks the device for permission. The speech is turned into text by your device’s own speech recognition, which on some platforms sends the audio to the platform vendor (Apple or Google) to be transcribed; that is governed by their privacy policies. The resulting text goes straight into the answer box on the device.

We never receive, store or send the audio or the transcription. Nothing about the microphone reaches us or any server of ours, and no recording is kept on the device.

5. Purchases

The optional yearly subscription is processed by the Apple App Store or Google Play. We use RevenueCat to check whether it is active. RevenueCat receives a randomly generated, app-specific identifier and the purchase receipt from the store, not a name, email address or any information that identifies the child. We never receive your payment card details. See RevenueCat’s privacy policy, Apple’s and Google’s.

6. Parental controls

A grown-up check, a multiplication a young child cannot do, stands in front of the purchase screen. The parent panel, which holds the screen-time and progress statistics and the control that clears them, is behind a separate parent PIN chosen by the parent. Deleting a profile asks for confirmation first and warns that its points and history go with it.

7. Links out of the App

Any link that leaves the App, for example to a store page or to this policy, is placed behind the parent gate. The parent panel lists our own other apps and links to their store pages; these are our apps only, there is no third-party advertising network, and no information about you is passed to the store when you follow a link.

8. Data retention and deletion

Because we hold no personal data, there is nothing for us to retain or delete. To remove everything the App has stored, delete the App from the device. Purchase records held by Apple, Google or RevenueCat are governed by their policies.

9. Your rights

Parents and guardians may contact us at any time to ask what information we hold about their child. Our answer will be: none. If you believe a child’s personal information has somehow reached us, write to us and we will delete it.

10. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes we will update the date above. If a change ever affected how children’s information is handled, we would seek verifiable parental consent before it took effect.
